Product description

KINGS OF LEON BECAUSE OF THE TIMES

Amazon.com

Aha Shake Heartbreak may have blown open the doors of fame for Kings of Leon, but their third full-length album (named for a United Pentecostal Church ministers' conference) could well usher the Nashville foursome directly to rock and roll's zenith. There's hardly a change in plans for the three Followill brothers and their cousin, and that means producer Ethan Johns, a smorgasbord of musical influences, and a cacophonous ensemble of guitar, bass, and drums. A trio of relentless rockers--"My Party," "Camaro," and the sarcastic "Charmer"--are sure to pacify those familiar with the Kings' blueprint, yet there is ripening in the band's approach heard, in several of the record's 13 songs. Reverb guitar and vocals and a "woo woo" chorus add a sinister aspect to "Trunk," and "Knocked Up" features a laissez-faire Caleb Followill crooning "She don't care what her mama said/She's gonna have my baby." The seven-minute revelation of fatherhood that opens the album leads into the U2-influenced "McFearless," a reggae-splashed "Ragoo," and the rambling English blues of "Black Thumbnail." It's a rogue element that has always left every record fresh, and this time it has Kings of Leon teetering on the edge of rock renown. --Scott Holter

I had to write a review for this album! I just recently started listening to Kings of Leon and I started with their newest album, Only by the Night, so I have purchased the albums backwards! Once I purchased Only by the Night I immediately fell in love with them! Every album has been absolutely amazing! This entire album is great, but my favorite track is #9, Fans!!! This track is so fun and feel good!! The lyrics are great, the beat is amazing and of course that sexy unique voice of his is phenomenal!!! It is a track that sticks in my mind from morning till night! I could not even get through the entire CD when I purchased it because I had to repeat Fans a millions times!!! Fans, Knocked up, Black Thumbnail and Trunk are my favs, but really, the whole album is great...just like all their others! Kings of Leon has one of the most unique styles and sounds I've ever heard! I definitely recommend this album and all their others!!!

I agree with the mates that had reviewed, that this album is darker that the other KOL material, though it is a magnificent piece of work! i just love the way the melody on Caleb's harsh-screamy voice get mixed with the great riffs and bass lines to form this kind of dense hard rock n roll.....just awsome man! a couple of favourites of mine that are examples of what i say, would be indeed "charmer" and "mcfearless", and of course other great songs like the opening song "knocked up" is hypnothic and is a kind of strange country-hard rock melody; and not to forget the great(now UK rock)anthem "Fans"...maan this is an EXCELLENT album of KINGS OF LEON!!!

and for you collectors, this item came in RED VINYL edition..i don't know if it is numbered to just some quantity but i got lucky and got this gem!

I never thought I'd ever say that one album can be my favorite out of all the albums I have owned and listened to with the exception of any of my Michael Jackson albums. . ..

This band has made me love music so much more. Caleb's raspy amazing voice sends chills down my spine, he makes me happy to hear him sing. Every song IS great and you don't come across that often!! I became a KOL fan with Only By The Night album then I began to go back and experience them in their entirety and I fell in love even more!! I am anxiously waiting the 6th album. . ..WHOOT!!!

I love this album and listen to it regularly. Although it's probably the King's most accessable album (I'm a bit of a musical snob) I love it. It's emotional, tight, simple. Like a mixture of Tom Petty, Creedance and 90s punk. I like this guys voice. Very original sounding. They just rock. I wish more bands wound develop this warm type of sound. It's very earthy. Some of the track (as usual) may appear a little weird to average top 40 music listeners so be aware if you are a casual music fan. If you like an album that sounds better every time you listen to it, then pick it up. That's my two cents.

I have been waiting for this new release for a long while and I must say on first listening I was sitting on the fence as to how I felt about it. I mean the King's released their difficult second album and it was bloody brilliant. But this is not Aha Shake so I will move on....

Except for Charmer which I still haven't fully embraced yet this is an album the more you listen the better it gets. "Black Thumbnail" is an absolute belter of a track as is "Fans" with "McFearlees", "True Love Way", "Ragoo" and "Arizona" making up the other highlights for mine. That is not to say the rest of the tracks aren't any good as this is a solid effort in all respects. Unlike a previous reviewer I think "Camaro" is all KOL and is not out of place here at all.

I don't think this will be a runaway success for the KOL however I am sure that was not their intention, but I like where they are going and believe that these guys could be absolutely anything....

If like me you liked their other offerings then this is a must have. For new KOL fans, start with Aha-Shake and then ease yourself in for the ride...just like an old classic car the ride is a bit bumpy but you wouldn't want it any other way.

I tend to lean towards Kings of Leon's newer albums (the old ones sound very simple and almost hillbilly to me) but there's something about this one that I really love particularly the songs Charmer, On Call, and Fans. Most of the songs all have some sort of catchy parts to them that really draw you in. Overall great album!

This is the best album in the last year, maybe last two. Followill's voice is the most uniquely haunting sound ... I can't stop playing these tunes. There are half a dozen unforgettable cuts here; "Knocked Up" ranks with the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs' "Maps" as one of the best tracks of the decade. And I'm not some kid: at 44, I come out of a Lou Reed, Petty, Costello, Springsteen mold. This is good stuff.
