Bayonet-signed Austin band Being Dead (Stack №418) follow up their 2023 debut with EELS. Post-Trash says it's "a big step forward for the band in terms of its musical approach with a more pronounced bit of 'girl-group' harmonies woven through their feisty garage punk."

BLACK FONDU - ANOTHER DOMESTIC

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
The appropriately titled Mutant Sounds points to the second single to date from London-based experimental MC and producer BLACK FONDU: "sounds like some mutated 2011 summer joint. Posi-vibe beat chopped up like early Flying Lotus."

Dar Disku - Sabir feat. Billur Battal

Bahrain-born, UK-based duo Dar Disku just released their debut album via Soundway Records, "exploring the dynamic rich sonic landscapes from their Arabic heritage whilst touching on influences from Turkish psych through to disco," says The Vinyl Factory. "A bouquet of beautiful upbeat celebratory music."

Afro-Portuguese beatmaker Nídia (Stack №282) connects with drummer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Valentina Magaletti for Estradas, out now on Paris-based record label Latency. TwistedSoul: "All the tracks are built on the foundation of shifting polyrhythms and embellished with syncopated drum patterns, groovy marimba lines, and melodic interludes."

urika's bedroom - Circle Games

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
LA-based musician urika's bedroom has toured with Nourished By Time (Stack №402) and seems poised for a similar breakout year. Stereogum calls this single "a bleary, dreamy track that layers echoing, heavily filtered vocals and prettily distorted guitars over a deep head-nod drum-machine groove. It sounds like futuristic trip-hop."

Yasmin Williams - Malamu (feat. Marcus Gilmore, Immanuel Wilkins)

Posted by 4 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Acclaimed guitarist Yasmin Williams joins Nonesuch for the collaborative new LP, Acadia. Raven Sings The Blues says it "feels like a celebration of strings, voices, sax, synths, and sticks...the album soars as her community expands."
GOOD MIX
Resident Advisor presents a new mix from Nídia: "a restless affair–60 minutes of pushing, pulling, tiptoeing and gliding through the sounds of the Príncipe universe."
GOOD READ

For Wired, Ashwin Rodrigues on how the "slamming door" sound became embedded in hip-hop history:

"Back in the day, if you wanted the sound made by a particular keyboard, you had to have the hardware."
