Ibibio Sound Machine - Got to Be Who U Are

Posted by 2 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Out now on Merge, the latest album from UK-based group Ibibio Sound Machine is "a perfect soundtrack for summer revelry," says The Vinyl Factory. "Imbued with joy, euphoria and defiance, the record is sunny and optimistic—a heartening callback to the nostalgic peaks of electroclash, albeit with cleaner productions and a more profound pop hookiness."

Vicky Farewell - Tern Me On

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Vicky Farewell has announced her new album on Mac's Record Label (that's Mac DeMarco). Loud & Quiet describes her sound as a "sleek take on gooey chiffon pop updated with a less gloomy subject matter." She wrote and produced it entirely from her Los Angeles apartment, adding "I needed to embrace vulnerability in order to meet my deeper self. These songs came from a real place."

Agriculture - Living is Easy

Posted by 9 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Headphones advisory: Los Angeles band Agriculture make self-described "ecstatic black metal." Bandcamp says they live up to that moniker on their new EP, Living is Easy, "with songs as powerful and extreme as they are soaringly beautiful."

Mikahl Anthony - Vintage Collection

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
The full-length solo debut LP from Mikahl Anthony, founder of Chicago's THEMpeople collective, will be released next month via R&S Records. Twistedsoul hears "soulful vocals laced with social commentary intertwine with jazz harmonies, trap rhythms, hip-hop beats, and psychedelic textures."

Saoirse - Mangomouse

Posted by 3 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
London DJ and producer Saoirse Ryan makes dance music with an edge; Resident Advisor says, "For every bassline sashaying its way across the stereo field, there's a minor chord key sequence just around the corner ready to darken the mood." She transcends "to final DJ boss form" on her latest EP, out now on Peach Discs.

Myriam Gendron - Long Way Home

Posted by 6 sites • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
Montreal psych-folk artist Myriam Gendron (Stack №343 and currently climbing Popular) releases her third LP, Mayday. Stereogum writes, "Myriam Gendron has the power to open emotional portals. There is something intangible about the sound of her voice, the phrasing of her words, and the chords she chooses that unlocks something within me, like few other musicians can."
GOOD MIX
London's Saoirse presents her mix for Bleep: "The concept for this mix was to recreate the types of sets that I've been playing recently in small intimate nightclubs from 5am onwards. The types of places where the only purpose is to get your head down and dance. It's kind of tripped out, deep and skippy. I feel as a DJ I have many avenues I go down but this is undoubtedly my absolute favourite flavour to play."
GOOD READ

With the passing of legendary audio engineer Steve Albini this week, revisiting his take on the problem with music in The Baffler, 1993:

"All that hard work paid off. With the help of a video, the album went like hotcakes! They sold a quarter million copies! Here is the math that will explain just how fucked they are..."

Thanks for listening!
