Soft Cat began as a bedroom project for Neil Sanzgiri before evolving into the baroque ensemble featured here on All Energy Will Rise. The album itself, meanwhile, rose from the ashes of a pair of tragedies: The loss of a close friend and a fire that destroyed the creative living space Neil shared with fellow Baltimore artists. Contemplative and hopeful, Stereogum likens the album's fusion of "folk, new age and classical composition" to that of tour-mate Mutual Benefit, calling it "a victorious declaration that when everything goes to hell, it’s important to keep in touch with all of the things that stay on this earth long after we’re gone."
